The first leg of the journey...

Departed Jasper on June 3rd with a fully loaded car heading to Vancouver. The scenic drive took us through the rugged Rockies and into the rolling hills of the Oakanagan Valley.  Hit Vancouver just in time for rush hour traffic and decided to push on through to Squamish to experience the scenic Sea to Sky Hwy and cheap camping at the popular rock climbing destination in Stawamus Chief campground.  The next day was spent making some final gear purchases at MEC'S flagship store in Vancouver.  We booked into the hostel in Jericho Beach and quickly biked downtown to catch game 2 of the playoffs.  Thankfully Vancouver won and the partying commenced, car horns honking until the early hours and celebrations on Granville.
The next day consisted of more running around Vancouver and a relaxing night on the beach with a pizza and beer carbo-load dinner in preparation for Day 1.  An early morning wake-up and pancake breakfast at the hostel resulted in more carbo-loading.  The Golf was packed full of gear and after some final farewells Alex's Ozzy friends dropped us off at the ferry terminal and continued on to Squamish beginning their Canadian tour as we cruised across to Vancouver Island en route to Victoria.  Upon arrival at Swartz Bay we realized we had about a 35km ride into Victoria and no place to stay.  After a couple of quick phone calls and the first real loaded bike ride of the trip we managed to snag a piece of floor at Alex's high school friend's place in downtown Victoria - A five minute bike ride from the Black Ball Ferry terminal to Port Angeles.  Andrew Bishop, our host for the night, kindly toured us around the HMCS Vancouver where he works as a member in the navy - a much different ship than the passenger ferrys we have been on lately - and he regailed us with stories of chasing pirates in Somalia during a previous tour.  Disappointed by the outcome of Game 3, we settled in for our last night in Canada.
